Pastor Reed dedicated the sermon to activist Desiree A. Fairooz, who was convicted of the crime of laughing during a Senate confirmation hearing. Pastor Reed also referred to the book Truth Speaks to Power: The Countercultural Nature of Scripture by theologian Walter Brueggeman.
