The Rev. Kari Jo Verhulst began serving as pastor of University Lutheran Church in September 2013. She holds an M.Div. from Weston Jesuit School of Theology and did an additional year of study at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. She also serves as Lutheran Chaplain to MIT, and was a chaplain/spiritual care coordinator for Good Shepherd Hospice in Newton until joining the staff of UniLu. She lives in Watertown with her husband Ernesto Valiente, who teaches theology at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, and their daughter Hannah, and enjoys vegetarian cooking, movies, and taking advantage of the many creative things to do with children in this area.
