University Lutheran Church has hosted the Harvard Square Summer Shelter, a transitional program for 12 men and women, in its lower level dormitory space for the past six years. In 2016, the summer shelter will open for the season on Monday, June 13. The program runs for 8 weeks and, like the winter shelter, seeks volunteers for dinner, overnight, and breakfast shifts. If you would like to volunteer, please email UniLu campus and community coordinator Jayms Battaglia for the online signup link.
In addition, the shelter will gratefully accept these food donations: proteins (burgers, veggie burgers, chicken strips or breasts); grains (rice, quinoa); veggies; fruit; and canned goods. Please bring these to church on Sunday, or contact Jayms Battaglia, campus and community coordinator, about the best time to drop off donated food.
