At University Lutheran
Art: Enjoy the striking Advent banners that depict Mary’s journey from the Annunciation through the birth of Jesus. Painters Sharon Bauer, Christina Hepner Brodie, Missy Daniel, Lillian Habinowski, Jean Lokensgard, May Reisz and Diane Roman created these for University Lutheran in 1989.
Advent Wreath-Making: Sunday, November 29 before and after the worship service. (What’s an Advent wreath? See this explanation from the ELCA (PDF).)
Poinsettias: Help us decorate our space for the season. Sign up to order a poinsettia on the bulletin board in the kitchenette, or email the church office. Small poinsettias are $7, large are $16.
Young Adults and Graduate Students Advent/Christmas Party: Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 pm at Maria Hedberg’s home in Brighton. Friends and significant others are welcome; snacks will be provided; bring a beverage to share. Please RSVP to Maria via email; short notice is not a problem!
Women of UniLu Advent Potluck: Sunday, December 13 from 3:30 to 7 pm at the home of Ann Himmelberger in Littleton. We will share personal Advent/Christmas themes from memories, stories or poems and honor the day for St. Lucia. Please bring an appetizer or supper item (main or side dish or dessert) for about 4-6 persons. Please RSVP to Clare Gordon so that she can notify you in case of any changes. Clare will also coordinate car pools, so please indicate if you need a ride or can give one.
Christmas Pageant: Sunday, December 20 during the 10:15 am worship service. All are encouraged to come dressed as one of the following characters: Mary, Joseph, Shepherd, Angel, Star, Sheep, Other Manger Creature (ie: cow, donkey, owl, gecko, etc.). Note to Sunday School families: During Sunday School on December 6 and 13, children will be invited to choose the part they want to play.
Carol Sing: Sunday, December 20 at 11:45 am. All are welcome to join in singing, playing an instrument, or listening!
Christmas Eve worship: Thursday, December 24.

From Partners and Friends
Advent Vespers: Sunday, December 6 at 7 pm at the First Lutheran Church of Lynn (280 Broadway, Lynn, MA). An adaptation of the traditional Lessons and Carols service, using the ancient prophecies as the focus for our reflection. Each reading will be preceded by either Healey Willan’s beloved choral setting or simple plainsong, and followed by a reflection and hymn. We will conclude by singing O Come, O Come Emmanuel with deeper appreciation of its origins and meaning for us today. If you like to sing and would like to be part of the choir for this service, you are invited to a rehearsal with lunch at 11 am on December 5.
Lessons and Carols at MIT: Wednesday, December 9 at 5:15 pm in the MIT Chapel. Join the Lutheran Episcopal Ministry at MIT for an evening of Lessons and Carols, followed by caroling from the balcony in Lobby 7, and then a festive (and free!) dinner in the Religious Activities Building.
JULEGUDSTJENESTE / JULGUDSTJÄNST: Sunday, December 13 at 5 pm at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer (60 Forest Park Road, Woburn, MA, Exit 35 off Rt. 128). The traditional Scandinavian service will be conducted in Norwegian & Swedish by The Rev. Anita Löfgren Chung, an ELCA pastor, and The Rev. Elisa Stokka, Pastor of the Norwegian Seaman’s Church in New York City.
