Wheelchair Accessibility for Sunday Morning Activities

Worshipers using wheelchairs or walkers are welcome at UniLu!

  • Our main entrance, located on Winthrop Street, has a wheelchair ramp.
  • Our sanctuary, where the 10:30 Sunday morning worship service takes place, is accessible with the exception of the chancel, where the worship leaders sit. A pew near the front has a cut-out for wheelchairs. Holy Communion is distributed on the main level, so no steps are required. If you would prefer to remain in the pews for communion, please alert one of the greeters as you come in so that worship leaders can bring communion to you.
  • The Alumni/ae Room, where the coffee hour and other events take place, is fully accessible.
  • There is an accessible restroom on the main level.

Occasionally, after- or before-church activities take place on the lower level, in the Fireside Room, kitchen, student center, or dormitory space. These are accessible through the lower level building entrance, also on Winthrop Street.

Unfortunately, UniLu has no elevator, so our upper level, including the organ/choir loft, is not accessible.

Wheelchair Accessibility for Dormitory/Shelter Space

UniLu’s lower level entrance, also located on Winthrop Street, also has a wheelchair ramp. This entrance is used by the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter from November 1 to April 15, the Harvard Square Summer Shelter during the summer, and visiting groups during other times of the year. The lower level includes a kitchen, dormitory space, and accessible women’s and men’s rooms (including showers).

Large Print Resources

We will be happy to create large print service bulletins for Sunday morning worship services. Please notify the church office by the Wednesday before you come, and ask the person greeting you at the door for the large-print bulletin when you arrive.

Assistive Listening Devices

Hearing devices that allow individuals with or without hearing aids to hear the 10:30 am service with greater clarity are available. Please speak to a Sunday morning welcomer for a device.
